Product concept · E-commerce · Pet food
The pet shop customers never have to remember to reorder from.
A three-phase plan to take an independent pet food shop online: same-day local delivery first, then autoship that knows when the bag runs out, then loyalty and an app.
Self-initiated · Oct 2026 · Brand: Muzzlebrook Pet Pantry, Geelong

01 · Why pet food
A product people buy every few weeks, for life
73%
of Australian households have a pet
31.6M
pets across about 7.7M homes
A$21.3B
spent on pets in a year, with food the largest share
A dog eats the same food every day, and a big bag is heavy to carry home. That makes pet food ideal for delivery and subscription. Independent shops know their customers by name but have no way to remind them, so when the bag runs out, the sale often goes to whoever is closest. Phase by phase, this plan fixes that.

Each phase pays for the next

We measureCustomers lost each month, referral sign-ups, delivery cost per order
Prices in AUD, no GST added, paid in milestones. Hosting and support from A$290/month once the app is live. Each phase is quoted on its own, so the shop can stop after any of them.
03 · The screens
What the customer sees

What the owner sees
One screen for the morning: what to pack, which suburbs to deliver to, and which products to reorder before autoship demand runs them out.

04 · Compliance
Low risk, done properly anyway
Light on red tape
No medicines, prescriptions or health records, so none of the health-privacy or hosting rules a clinic has. Prescription diets and medicines stay in store.
Clear subscription terms
Price, interval and how to cancel are shown before checkout, and cancelling is as easy as signing up, in line with Australian Consumer Law.
Messages done right
Delivery reminders are service messages with no promotions. Marketing email goes only to people who opted in, with one-click unsubscribe (Spam Act).
Payments and privacy
Card details stay with Stripe, never on the shop’s server. A privacy policy follows the Australian Privacy Principles even if the shop is under the A$3M threshold.
Pet food standards
AS 5812 is voluntary. Products from manufacturers accredited by the Pet Food Industry Association can say so on their page.
05 · Ground rules
What this is
- A self-initiated product plan. Muzzlebrook Pet Pantry is our own brand for this study, not a client.
- We designed the screens. Prices, reviews and dashboard numbers inside them are illustrative.
- We don’t forecast sales. Each phase lists what we would measure, and the next phase is planned from those numbers.
